David Frum is Slow: Why Romney Lost

It’s ridiculous that anyone ever thought Romney was going to win that election. Who do these people listen to? I am not a Democrat or a Republican, and maybe that is why it is obvious to me that the Republican ship has sailed. It’s over, visit the Republican Party at the Hospice Center. David Frum is trying to help everyone figure out why Romney lost with an eBook, and he is trying to save the Republican Party. There are people who want to perform CPR on this thing, but it’s really not part of the plan. It’s not necessary any more. The political class no longer needs the distraction of a two-party system. They have implemented all sorts of new controls, and the right wing, and the drug warriors are getting everything they need from Obama. He has deported more immigrants than any other President -ever-, twice what Bush did. He has also done more raids on legal marijuana, completely disrespecting local law. Just click that link back there and read for yourself.

So here’s the deal David Frum. When those sexless ghouls in your Republican party talked about rape as being of the Lord, and that there is some kind of magic birth control in cases of violence against Women, and when they talked about allowing employers to demand invasive procedures on their female employees, there were people in the Democratic Party who were stupid enough to actually think that the laws those anomalous time warp freaks wanted to pass had a chance to see the light of day. When you couple that with the people in your Party who actually think so, and the females in your Party who are frightened to death of their men, -THEN- add to that the fact that the Leadership of the Democratic Party have absolutely -zero- conscience in regard to exploiting fear… well… that is just one issue where the mind of the There are two classes in the United States, the political class and the rest of usaverage American is under utter control. And it works the same way on a whole range of issues.

Remember the 80’s, when the Evangelical Christians thought Reagan was a man of God who infiltrated the White House to do the Lords work and then corporatized the food industry, killing the small farms and the businesses that go with it? Then how he turned the other way when a bunch of Salvadorean military men, aligned with the US in Central America raped and murdered those American Catholic Nuns in El Salvador? Well, there is a whole new crop of New Agey types who think Obama is some kind of “lightworker” or unifier, even as he has ordered 308 drone strikes, 5 times more than Bush and continues to strain relationships with Countries who have nuclear weapons, in that and other ways.

Your Party is not necessary any more David.

But tell me the truth Dave? you already know all this right? I am just a schmuck-ass working guy from a blue collar background and I can see this. I have been saying for two years that two terms is a lock for Obama. I know you have to know -at least- what I know.

So yes, here is -my- ebook, my lousy 0.99 ebook that has all sorts of stuff that you David Frum seem to have overlooked. And I’m sorry to tell you that it does not have any recipes; it does not have any recipes for reviving the Republican Party, for making sure you pundits get to be on TV fighting over things the govt. should not have any business being involved in at all, in the first place.  Because as for me, I am glad that the grave for the Republican Party has been dug, because now we are just in time to dig the next one for the Democratic Party. It’s one down, one to go Dave. Get hip, click the picture for my rag.

I wrote this SIX years ago Dave. Damn you’re slow.

Winter 2012: 6 years in the making

The top of Big Powderhorn Mountain

–  there is a sun alive in each snowflake at midnight  –

The Frozen North is a prose and poetry blog I started in Winter of 2006. It is the beginning of this journey that I am on. I am at the end of the beginning of the end of an internal process that began at the same time I started the Frozen North blog. Lately that blog, that I have barely touched since I stopped using it Dec. 26, 2006 has been getting followers. So today I went back to it and updated some links, and invited the subscribers to that blog to come see me here. If you are one of those people,  Hi.

The photo above is the top of the hill where I live. It’s called Big Powderhorn Mountain, it is in Michigan. It is the opposite side of the hill I live on now. At the time of this photo, I lived down the side of the hill you are looking at. A couple of months after I took this picture, I moved up the other side of it. Which is what I focused on during my daily exercises at that time, moving to the other side of the hill. My exercises are now focused on other endeavors. If you want to see what they are, well, then just keep following this blog

Winter 2012 is another focus year. The beginning of a new journey. If there is one thing I would say to mark this occasion, it is that for sure, without question, love overcomes evil.

I finally sent out my chapter excerpt btw, so if you want one email subscribe and you’ve got it.

Love and light.

A more perfect union: Some thoughts on perfectionism

I have been thinking a lot about perfection lately, because it seems like I am never satisfied with my work. When I am writing, it feels like I can just keep it to myself and keep trying to make it better, forever. At some point you have to just let it go. This is a hard thing for me to learn. It makes me wonder about all the things I have written over the years that were “perfectly fine” but since I was not satisfied, were never read by anyone.I was supposed to send out my raw chapter to my subscribers today but of course I am not satisfied with it yet.. and it’s only a raw chapter.

Fear is a common denominator in politics. i thelps the politicians control us through fear.

Until the Presidency of George Bush, and with the exception a a few suspensions, the United States had Habeas Corpus. I don’t even know if they teach this is school any more. I have no idea. President Obama has taken it further out of reach by signing NDAA and by using indefinite detention, even though when he signed the Act he said he would never use it. Bradley Manning is in jail for telling the truth about what our Government is doing overseas, and our President’s lawyers are in court fighting to keep him there.

There I am trying to get this chapter perfected and I get sucked in like an idiot to the election coverage, and I listen to the concession and victory speeches. During his acceptance speech, after the election tonight, our President made a statement.

Tonight, more than 200 years after a former colony won the right to determine its own destiny, the task of perfecting our union moves forward. It moves forward because of you. It moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has lifted this country from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope, the belief that while each of us will pursue our own individual dreams, we are an American family and we rise or fall together as one nation and as one people.

Wow. He talked about “perfecting our union”. During the election there was that whole thing about how Republicans want to take the country back 50 years with their views about women. That was really gross, it is really gross, and they are really gross. I am not sure which was more significant though, the ideas they were spreading, or the idea that any of those things they said they wanted to happen would ever happen. Why isn’t Habeas Corpus being rescinded causing as much of a scare as the weird sexless ghouls in the Republican Party? Currently, Habeas Corpus is under suspension, and this has happened before, but it has never been followed up by an Act like NDAA, which essentially makes it permanent, and is very arbitrary in the way it might be enforced, using the term “belligerent” to describe discontented Americans who question policy, and allows us to be tried by military tribunals if some Federal Prosecutor deems it necessary. This is the use of fear, like crazy. Scaring the hell out of Women with 50’s talk that would NEVER come to fruition, and making Americans fear speaking out and being critical of policy for fear of being accused of terrorism.

Essentially, people were freaking out that the clock would get turned back 50 years with regard to Women, which would never happen. What it seems people are not aware of is that the clock has been turned back to before 1776 in some very serious ways and it seems few are paying attention, while the President who is doing it is talking about “perfecting the union” at the same time. Remember, Habeas is something that under our Constitution can be suspended, it is written that way. But these guys are taking it further with NDAA and essentially creating the conditions that disallows the application for the writ. And the conditions are arbitrary, because any Federal Prosecutor can employ it. All this is doing is making me want to be more of a cynical jerk. It’s totally not helping. When the President was campaigning the first time he said he would strive to restore Habeas and scale back the Patriot Act. Instead, he not only expanded the Patriot Act, but he signed NDAA. I am afraid it might be a while before we get back to that whole “a more perfect union” thing. if you don’t trust me or believe me, go look into it. I hope you will, because no matter how you water it down so you can protect the President from criticism, it’s not cool, and you will see that for yourself whether you want to be honest about it or not.

Make it happen: Do what you love

notes and organization, using pens and paper. remember pens and paper?

The picture is a link to a note about notes

Make it happen. When you don’t give up you can draw good things to yourself. I did not give up, but mostly, what happened is I kept writing. And I used my allotted research time (mini-day) to research writing opportunities and locate groups of creative people in online groups and organizations.  In the process of seeking out illustrators for a graphic novel I am working on, outside of Stellar Gas, and potentially one of my short stories called “The Story of Seaweed” I found a situation where I can make money editing graphic novels and comic books. I am not going to call it a job, because it is my essence.  It is play for me to do things like this.. and it just could become the case that I have found the illustrators I am looking for right in this group.

For my email subscribers, expect your copy of a free chapter by the end of the day today,  Tuesday. See, just because the scary Circus is in town does not mean everything has to be bad.

Circus Eve, Election 2012: Election Projection, send in the clowns because they are going to win again.

Obama started using drones, not only overseas, but in the United States as well. Romney has promised to pick up the pace. That is a signal to let you know that after the election, Obama is going to pick up the pace.Today, with me being busy making sure I am happy with the excerpt I’m preparing,  it’s just about pictures, and whatever links you find in this post. On Tuesday, election day, tomorrow email subscribers will receive the excerpt from my novel called Stellar Gas.

I have been super busy and I am really happy when I am writing alot.  I am doing a blog post per day all month… hopefully.  Inspired by NaBloPoMo. This will be a good motivation for me to format more ebooks, cause oh yeah.. I got ‘em baby. This is post #5. Can i do it?

All the ebooks that I have listed so far have been changed to 99¢. I have actually sold a couple of them.  From now on, only 99¢ ebooks on kindled commutes, unless I list someone else. Speaking of which, I have a nice inquiry from another blogger who is getting into ebooks. He is going to be a guest on my blog as soon as he is ready. I do not even have his blog address right now or I would give it to you.

Ok, so that is it for today. How would you feel if I asked you to share this site with your friends via email? Or use your facebook account to share it around today. I am averaging about 20 visits per day, but I need to get it up to 100. Once you reach 100 visits per day consistently, that is when you can do some things to make it -really- grow.

Also, never be afraid to ask me for help with your internet needs, I like building websites and using facebook applications to build audience. I do that stuff all the time and I am happy to help you as well.  Probably alot less expensive than other people. Especially if you are a subscriber of mine.. I mean c’mon? Are you kidding, whudd’ya think this is, anyway? A circus?

Well, they must think we are bozos if they expect us to put up with these choices much longer. So till 2016, when the first non-Party affiliated President since George Washington is elected, send in the clowns.

i want a future where i am taught to question everything. where me and my friends are not brainwashed to be taught stone age myths and are not brainwashed to believe it is honorable to die for you because you are too small minded to believe in peace over warI love you America.

A Movie review on the Internet Movie Database: Moon Point

I do not do a lot of movie reviews on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) because if I like a movie I think that’s great, and movies are supposed to be entertaining. If I don’t finish watching it, well, then I can’t review it because I don’t like to watch crappy movies.  When I do review, it is usually snarky, because I got through the whole thing and felt ripped off or offended by something.. If you have read my blog at all, you know that I have this snarky quality.. err.. from time to time.

I am not offended by this film, just disappointed that Aristotle got slandered by getting the blame for Plato’s delusional rambling.

This review is not very mean at all. In fact, I am just trying to help with a script flaw and maybe help the writer be more careful on his scripts, because it as really not a terrible film.  Anyway, two days ago I did this blog post about Plato, and how he was the first sellout; the first “media whore” of his day. So..  I thought it is interesting that I saw this fairly cute film called Moon Point, where there is a reference to Plato’s “Forms”, but somehow the flawed and tragic concept is instead attributed to Aristotle by the Writer of the movie script. And yes, “0 out of 2 people found the following review useful.” I love that. LOL

You think it's wrong, I can tell you do. How can I explain, when you don't want me too?0 out of 2 people found the following review useful:
Script error: Plato, not Aristotle, 2 November 2012
5/10
Author: robertrun from United States

During the movie the main character is explaining Plato’s “Forms” to another character, and he misrepresents the theory as belonging to Aristotle. The actor described Plato’s Forms, Aristotle did not believe in Forms.

Aristotle was a student of Plato, and was radically opposed to, and argued against Plato on this. Aristotle had a completely different take on “forms” (small f) as in “hylomorphic” or derivative forms in substance, rather that Plato’s metaphysical “Ideals” in some non-seen realm, which is what the actor described.

So that’s too bad. But it was a cute movie, I could have given it a 6 instead of a 5 were it not for that really bad mistake. I mean, that is -such- a major mistake, it really is, and someone’s college professor should be embarrassed.

-End  of review-

Sorry for being so nerdy, LOL. If you are looking for substantiation, get offline and go read a book. Tongue Out

Writing for graphic novels and seeking illustrators for short stories

The process of seeking an illustrator for my short stories and graphic series/ novel has been difficult. There are so many incredible illustrators out there, but even getting to the point where I can send them my writing for consideration almost never happens. They are either represented by agents, or they are just so swamped with work that they don’t even want it on their desks right now. Good for them, bad for me.

During this process, I have learned a great deal. I have even found a small publisher who is seeking an Editor. I took advantage of that opportunity by doing a test edit and I hope it comes to fruition. If it does, I will not only do what I love for a living as a reader and writer, but potentially find a place for my short works and my graphic novel series. That would be an excellent situation.

The book length novel I am writing is still humming along. I work it into my day on a regular basis, I am not rushing it and I am having a wonderful time. At this point, the characters are pretty much.. well, I will use the cliché… “writing themselves.” The giveaway raw chapter for email subscribers, here, is almost tightened up to my satisfaction. That will be going out by the first of next week. I’m only giving it to email subscribers.

I have to say, that getting lost in the world that one creates oneself by writing a novel is almost a guilty pleasure at this point. I spent a lot of my youth having my life suppressed by others, and I gave much of my young adulthood to society doing socially oriented volunteering. Just being immersed in my imagination and watching a vision unfold before me is a far-out experience. I’m truly grateful.

When we bring the troops home and end the wars, and then recede all our resources from all over the world, we will not only be able to cut military spending in half, but we will have so much left over that recycling it into exportable good will fuel our economy for the next 100 years.

Yes Virginia, Hotels are Haunted

black moving gif image for placeholder kindleThere is a Hotel near me in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that is haunted, for sure. I lived there for two Winters and I had visitors like crazy. The room I stayed in the 2nd Winter  had a friendly ghost. He used to mess with me. At first I think he was trying to get to me because I always felt weird fear when he was around. Then I grabbed a chair, sat down in front of the corner I could feel him in and just told him “Look, I’m only here for the Winter, I do not have an issue with you being here and I do not mean any harm at all. As long as you are cool with me I will be cool with you.” Then I said  ”if there is anything I can do to help you I will do it, if you can figure out a way to tell me.” I told him, “You have a lot more options than I do right now, If I could walk through a wall, or travel like you I would be way gone, so just be cool OK?”

He was not there all the time, but I always knew when he was there, because he would bump through the walls and knock stuff around. I would come home from where I worked and I would immediately know if I was going to be alone that evening.

One time I asked him how he died, or what happened, why he is here.. etc. Later when I was cooking dinner in the downstairs part of the is killer huge Hotel room, I heard a thud upstairs in the sleeping loft, which is like a pretty good sized bedroom. I had just been up there drying off and getting dressed after my shower, which was my daily routine. I always light a candle after a shower, I’m kind of a big girly man that way. It is comforting. Then I put the candle out before I go down to cook dinner. When I went up there after the “thud”, my giant three-wick candle (you have seen those, right?) was on the ground in front of the mirrored dresser where it had been sitting. He did that, but he waited for the wax to cool off before he did it, I never had to clean up the wax. He is a very considerate ghost, at least to me. I place a candle close to the mirror so it  throws light, and so it is not close to the edge where it could fall and make a mess or start a fire,  it was not close to the edge. It was moved.

Clara, a really far out old hippy lady who used to be a housekeeper years ago told me there had been a fire just a couple years after it was built in the 70’s. A man died in the fire.

The wing where the fire happened was where I was the year before. I had experiences down there too, but they were more frantic and not friendly, like the ghost felt threatened or something. Those were really scary stories, at least to me, that I will not go into, because there is no point in fear. The lights at that part of the building are always burning out and there are electrical issues.. and the door to one of the rooms, for some reason, always finds a way to get stuck closed. Either furniture falls in front of it, or a lock malfunctions, or a key gets broken in it. Always the same room. That was the room I was in the first year.

The next year, upstairs, once I talked to the guy he was OK with me. I think he knocked the candle over because he was trying to tell me what happened and who he was. I think he was a good guy in life, I hope he is ok and finds his way. There are a lot of lonely people walking around who have no one and no where to go. I do not know if that changes when we die.

Another thing is there are pictures on the walls in the banquet room. People are having very happy days in those pictures. For some of these people it could have been the happiest day of their life. Maybe it was a wedding or some other really lovely day for them. Maybe that is just where they want to hang out because it was a good memory for them and it beats whatever other options they have.

Everyone who is familiar with that giant archetypical haunted looking Hotel knows something is going on there. They hear the music turn on and the chairs and tables moving around in the defunct bar, they know about the dude who died in the fire, they all just know. When we see each other around we just give each other those knowing looks and weird smiles. No one really wants to talk about it I think. As I look back on it, you know, how hindsight is 20/20? I think everyone, or many people who knew I was a new person there, were just waiting for me to figure it out. It is a bizarre joint. But I really like it and i will never forget it. It is a special place. I hope they can all be a big, happy family, regardless of the dimension they reside in.

Being vibrologically sensitive can be a weird thing. We are conditioned all our lives to ignore it and suppress it, and there are just so many efforts, whether conscious and willful, or  subconscious and implied to keep those senses dulled. All I can say at this point is two things. 1, everything I wrote above is 100% honest, and not just a Halloween story. And 2, love is far stronger than fear.

Another true Halloween Story

Election Day and Halloween are suspiciously proximal

Secrets for creative minds: Boring business people and the reasons you really don’t know why you need them even though you think you know

If more Artists new these secrets, they could manage themselves, get a lot more exposure and only hire a manager when they absolutely need to. More importantly, they could hire accountants.

By Robert Run (2,148 Words)

Are you more intelligent and more creative than them? Then why do you need them? Are they more intelligent? Were it not for them would you have anywhere to sell your writing, art, music, anywhere to perform, would anyone think you were really very interesting at all? You need to be more like them. They not only have the discipline and self-respect to crunch the numbers and create systems for you to function in, but they have the creativity to convince people to pay attention to you. If it were not for these “boring business drones” and their ability to promote and sell your “creativity”, no one would really think anything you had to share was worth much, at all. They do the same thing you do, only in a different way. They are not only business people, but they are also artists.

They actually use both hemispheres of their brains in ways that you do not. They can not only do their jobs, but if they’d realize it, they could do yours too, and cut you right out of the equation. Seriously, you should freak out a little bit about this and get your act more together, try to learn from this. They do the same thing you do, only in a different way. (Worth the repetition)

The last thing they want is for you to understand this, because then you might not need them as much. And you would get to keep more of your own money instead of giving it to them. Why not take what they know and make it a part of your daily schedule? You can do it, for sure. It is a lot of what you do anyway, so understand that it’s just a different process for what you do all day as an artist anyway.

Is linguistic dogma killing you?

How about not getting hung up on language, and not being offended by synonyms? Is it really worth cutting so many people off from what you create or provide just because there are certain words you hate? Why not open yourself up to more and more people? What if you are really providing something useful that could help change everything?

I remember a meeting I was in once. It was for a local food co-op in the neighborhood where I lived at that time. Somehow these people pulled this place off, but they certainly did not do it with the quickness or efficacy they could have due to their very bizarre dogma about the use of language. I remember sitting in that meeting, listening, trying to get a feel for things and seeing if there was going to be a way for me to be useful. Someone brought up the importance of Public Relations and Marketing, and how they wanted to be involved in that aspect of the business. The person who brought that up got shot down by the rude authoritarian who was running the meeting because they used the word “marketing”. “Please refrain from using words like marketing and public relations, we are not capitalists and this is not a business, it’s a cooperative, that’s what co-op means”. Now, first of all, yes they are marketers, and yes they have good public relations, because they have been in business for quite some time now. You can call what you do whatever you want. Call it “outreach”, call it “promotions”, call it “relationship building” or “communications”, but you have a reputation and you have to get the word out as well as get feedback. That is marketing and public relations in any language. Yes, they are capitalists, and yes they are business people. Yes, they are.

Have fun with semantics and pretend you are not a business if it makes you feel better, but whichever model you use for your business, it is a business model even if the structure you choose is a co-op. And whatever you call “communications” you are communicating to the MARKET, genius. It’s one of the oldest words in the history of written language.

That co-op is alive and well and all the people running it make the decisions, including the weird lady who elbowed the neighbor out of the meeting by controlling the semantics, and she makes a decent living, too. Sounds like a successful capital enterprise to me. Good for them, although when I am back in that neck of the woods I shop somewhere else, where the owners do not snap at their neighbors for using synonyms. My choice, thank you free enterprise. Who knows what kind of excellent opportunities were cut off from that group due to such petty closed-mindedness? On the other hand, what this proves is that the people at that co-op are very competitive and territorial people and that is why they have been successful. Even though they decided to limit their audience, they made it. They know their market and they took care of business. They chose not to cast a broad net. That works for them and they are happy with it.

The point is that if you want broad success, don’t do that to yourself, and don’t kid yourself about what you are and what you do to thrive. The world of doing things in an economy is a market. It’s not a bad word. There are some pretty good entrepreneurs out there who have such vivid imaginations that they fancy themselves communists or something. The world is a weird place full of people with all sorts of delusions; don’t let bizarre thinking limit your success, it’s easy to have marginal success, because most people are marginal.

Blaming business for greed is like blaming blood for mosquitoes

You see these people holding up signs that say “capitalism failed” and whatnot. It’s true to an extent, since big business has co-opted the governments, and uses them to control and centralize the economy there have been many many problems. Large centralized economies fail every single time. There are not really any examples of debt-free, entrepreneur friendly free-enterprise economies left in the world. If the right wing is not screwing it up, the left wing is.

Many of the people out there “in the struggle”, preaching the end of free-enterprise and capitalism are just as greedy opportunistic as the wall streeters and central banks who pulled the rug out from under the economy. The biggest problem they have is that they are not the ones who performed the ‘coup. Believe it. Their problem is not that there was a ‘coup, their problem is that they were not the ones who did it.

“What does this have to do with my art?” you ask. Well, a lot, because it helps you identify what you can control, and that is your business, both literally and figuratively, you get to mind your business.

How many times have you said “I could do so much better if I could afford to pay someone to do all the things I hate”? Well, this sounds weird, but sometimes you are doing things you love when you do things you hate, and you do the things you hate as you do the things you love.

  • “I love writing my poems and stories, but I hate writing sales letters.”
  • “I love being social and going to parties with people but I hate making phone calls and talking to industry people.”
  • “I love rehearsing and collaborating with fellow artists, but I hate business meetings.”

“It’s not the same thing” you say? Yes it is. It is to your brain. To your brain, physical actions are physical actions, because your brain is a physical organ. Your mind on the other hand has all sorts of imaginary constructs implanted in it to keep you from succeeding.

Can you see the point here? Have you ever considered that a CD cover is really just a business brochure? Have you ever realized that passing out flyers for your band’s next show is a marketing campaign? Am I taking the joy out of it for you? Guess what, if you don’t face this pretty soon you’ll have to get out of your creative activity, because things need to run. If you are not reminding people that you exist, they forget you. Go bag groceries.

You may as well learn how to do these things efficiently. Here’s the good part, why would you let a boring business person book your life when you can do it with flare and artistry that is unique to you? This way you may be able to save up enough cash to pay someone to be your assistant or your accountant, NOT your manager.

Let me ask you this, Artist: Do you realize that while all these people out there are having all this turbulence and struggle, stirring things up, pulling out rugs, panicking, preaching, and with all the perception preening by the masters of media that you have been a productive, genuine, creative person who is actually seeking to add value to the world rather than make hay from the destruction of values? Now, who do you think, honestly, can do a better job booking your life than you? You need tools.

TOOLS to trick your brain: Group your physical actions, because your brain does not know the difference between art and business, those definitions are constructs, but physical actions are physical actions, and the brain is a physical organ.

  • The best time to write the copy for promotional material is right after you have finished writing your song lyrics for your latest tune, finished your latest chapter, or wrote your best jokes. Keep your writing with your writing, which includes emails. Writing is a physical activity.
  • The best times to have in-person meetings or make phone calls on behalf of your projects are right after your rehearsals and collaboration sessions. Keep your social activity grouped together as much as you can. Singing with a group, collaborating, phone calls and meetings are social, physical activities. It’s all the same to your brain.
  • If you are in visual arts, then it follows to create your promotional graphics at the tail end of a long creative session. Creating graphics is a physical activity, regardless of whether it is in the realm of arts or business.

The point being made here is that the human brain likes to focus on one physical activity at a time, because the human brain is a physical organ. So see your daily actions as physical activities and design your schedule accordingly as much as you can… especially putting your promotional activity directly following your creative activity, so your brain is at its best as you do these things. Your brain does not know the difference between business actions and artistic actions, the brain is an organ, and it is not your mind. Your mind makes a distinction between these things, not your brain.

Just like physical actions, thoughts need to be organized well.

It helps to have one place to keep everything. All your work, whether it is your art or your promotional material (are we seeing less of a difference?), it needs a place to be organized, and it needs a place to be showcased. You should be able to control it all from one place and make whichever materials you desire public, private, semi-private, collaborative, or whatever you want. Social media is more important now, but at the same time, it can be fairly incomplete, and designed toward a short attention span. The good things in life take a little more work than that.

You “need a place to go”. You need a place to put your materials, to organize your materials and showcase your materials. Regardless of the function of those materials, you need a place to keep them, work on them and share them. One of the things about ebookary.com that makes it different is that it can work for more people than the short attention spans of viewers and web surfers, in terms of their flitting around the web sharing links and then forgetting them as fast.

For people who have more functional brains than that, and are intelligent and organized, and have a plan, ebookary.com is a very useful tool. It is not only a place for short attention spans, but it is also a place for people like you who have actual thoughts. Organize your thoughts. Organize your effort, describe it, store it, and showcase it. Read the about page to learn more. If you have thoughts, you’ll like it.

Free Thought: About Kindled Commutes

Having a great time. Tell hemp I said thanks and see you in 100 years.

This is the category on this blog where you’ll find the free shit. And, you’ll be finding free thought all over the site.  It’s the place I am going to ramble, muse, rant and explore the world of self-publishing and my decision-making process regarding whether to try to find an agent and seek a traditional publishing route, or to do it myself with some kind of self-publishing service. And.. 99¢ eBooks like a freak.

At some point as I am getting closer to finishing my novel, I will start excerpting it and kind of outlining what it’s all about, describing the characters and having some fun with that. Essentially, in terms of the subject matter and general feel of the book, it’s about the transference we are going through in the United States as we breakdown the political and economic structure and return to a more locally oriented economy and polity. The book has a lot of fun with the ironies and contradictions in the foisted and paralyzing religions in the U.S. that are what have become of the Liberal and Conservative traditions.

We are turning off our televisions and planting gardens. It is a pretty great time. Simultaneously, there are the hangers-on. They are not using their smashed TV’s for planters, they are mounting outdoor, all-weather televisions on their lawns. They have not gotten the message. That’s fine. You don’t need to push a boulder down a hill once gravity kicks in. The deal is done. We won. Rejoice.

That’s the gist of this joint.

“Well” you say, “then why don’t you just give your books away?” “Why are you charging money for your writing then and not letting me read it for free?”.  The reason is because I am an honest person and things in life have costs. It costs to spend time doing things like this. It is costing right now even though so much of what you can do on the internet is “free”. The more time you spend here doing this stuff, the less time you spend figuring out a way to stay off food stamps, the more likely you are being less productive at work and costing more than you are worth. Don’t give up on me here, read on.

“This guy is so full of contradictions” you are thinking, “first he says he’s glad people are tuning out of the past and planting gardens, because people are giving up on consumer culture, but then he says to pay him for shit and that people spending time on the internet are on food stamps, like it’s a bad thing, and are being less productive at work”.  Well, for some people this seems weird, but like I said I am an honest guy. I know a lot of happy people, some of them work for themselves, and some of them work for others, but they are all busy, productive people. Some of them make shit-tons of money, and some make enough to live a life they love and take care of their loved ones.  Those are the types of people who have inspired me, and they are the ones who are changing everything, and they are intelligent enough to know that there are costs for things.

I am not necessarily trying to get rid of you if you are looking for  a free ride. My novel is going to cost money. In fact, I am going to charge more for it than other novels you can buy. It is worth a lot to me, and my time is valuable as well. This book is a culmination of myriads of phases and experiences of my life woven into a story of a town, and it is the type of thing that a lot of people are going to relate to, and it is LONG. I mean it a long, intricate read. And if you want to read, it is going to cost you, because costs exist, people can’t work for free.

There are people going around fighting for the rights of the poor (which is something I have done plenty of, and will continue to do) and then expect to not have to pay for things. If they buy something once in a while and are not stealing illegal downloads and scamming, someone in those places you’ve heard about can get paid.  If this is not what someone wants to read, if it bothers them.. I don’t know. Sometimes they pirate an iPhone or Galaxy and then torrent an illegal app and then tweet their friends about the evil of Steve Jobs and Samsung. I hope you are not like that, but if you are, well.. I’d like you to think about this:

Blaming business for greed is like blaming blood for mosquitoes. There are all sorts of business transactions every day, and all sorts of business models. The vast majority of business transactions are advancing society. Don’t get caught up in anti-business jargon and conditioning. Whoever is doing that to you is robbing you, they are as greedy and power-hungry as anyone, believe that.

Please tune me in with a subscription and share my blog. Even if you don’t want to buy my stories right now, share them with others. And remember, don’t expect a free ride. The least you can do if you are carpooling (and I hope you are)?   Read a few of my ebooks to the driver.

Thanks for everything and remember, don’t text and drive, or read and drive.

Robert
