The use of artistic license in writing

I’m explaining that I am a novice astronomer and that some my use of astronomy in my book War and Vegetables is artistic license, and incongruous for effect. The order in which the events in the book occur are accurate per month, but not per year. Some of the events would not happen in succession in the same year but do occur in the months that they are presented in different years.
I think a book where the year jumps around according to astronomical events would be a lot of fun; The events as time signatures indicating flashbacks and flash-forwards. I however, am not the writer interested in doing that.  At least not right now. Maybe some genius will steal the idea from me, if it has not already been done.
So, for Dr. Tyson, and/ or any purists, sorry. It’s not out of disinterest or disrespect.
Try to have a really good day anyhow. :)

I hope you’ll visit my book website,

Thanks for reading!

Nanowrimo: Some things about long writing sessions and daytime writing sessions. I have my brain spasms at night

Nanowrimo 2013 Word count, 13546:

There are people who really thrive in long writing sessions. Others get paid big bucks to sit in a room and write and rewrite scripts and it requires that they work long hours. It must be nice, I guess. Considering some of the lousy stuff out there, some people think it is more about who you know than what you know or whether your material is any good. Well that is not as much true as you think.

So much of it has to do with your ability to organize your time and pack the most into your day possible. It’s like any business, it is a numbers game, and the more you can write in a shorter time, the more likely you will have -something- that you can use for income. Sometimes people get lucky and get some kind of break so their material gets out there and produced, but generally people who get work do so because they work a lot.

So even though it is true, and universally understood that there is some crap coming out of Hollywood, cut a little slack, because those people work pretty hard to get to material that is worth something. Can you imagine the giant piles of stinky garbage the people who buy scripts have to go through to find something worth doing for their studios? Yeah, no thanks. They deserve the money they make to tolerate that.

As for me, at least for now, I have this luxury of being able to have short sessions. I only like to write 1000-1500 words a day, and I like to write at night, when I am tired. My mind is more lucid when I’m tired. It also helps if I have a little ganja, but I sadly do not have any. Sometimes I have some ganj for a couple of days a week for my sessions and that helps keep things loose and lubricated up there, as long as I don’t over do it and as long as I don’t do it every day.

I’m falling a little behind on my trajectory for nanowrimo. I am going to have a double session to make up for it, but I will not do it all at once. I will space it out so I have two sessions in one day.

Yesterday’s session got into the characters evaluating some information they received from the dad of one of the dual protagonists. Some of what they heard seemed contradictory, but he was not able to complete his thoughts when he gave them, and he will continue later to clear things up.

NaNoWriMo: The method I use for writing my Novel is I really love my characters as people

8647 is the current word count  for my Novel on Nanowrimo

One of my writing buddies, Ela Iliesi asked me this question:

“What do you do to write? What works for you? I for example like reading things other wrote and brainstorm on that, capture the best ideas and integrate them.”

I had never really thought about it before she asked me, and it was interesting that she asked me this yesterday because yesterday’s focus for me was character development. I got in there and made sure my characters were understood and profiled well, and I realized I really loved them as people. Even the antagonists who are unsavory or weird or bogus are people I understand. I know “why they are like that”, and I have compassion for them.

I also use a lot of old material from my past to glean from. Song lyrics, poems, short stories, essays and opinion.

So that’s the answer to her question.

Since you have come to the trouble of visiting, I think it is worth it for you to read this pep talk from a well published author Catherynne M. Valente who has done Nanowrimo in the past. This is really good stuff and what she says rings true for me, that’s why I’m linking to it.

today wabbit

That’s what I’ve got for today, hope you enjoyed it. Come back tomorrow and check on my word count for me.

Check out a day of focused moments, too, if you want.

NaNoWriMo Update: The Reunion

7284 words as of today. When you update your word count, they have an app in the NanoWriMo website that calculates everything from the number of words to your trajectory, to your projected finish date.

Yesterday I finished the Chapter “Reunion”, where the dual protagonists reunite, catch up a little and make their immediate plans to prepare for the mysterious big changes that are coming.

Tonight it is about rounding out the first three characters I’ve introduced… I need to do a little better job filling in the reader about where they’re from, where they’re at and where they’re going.

NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month (Nano)

A few days ago I started NaNoWriMo: http://nanowrimo.org/participants/robert-run. the idea is to write 50,000 words of a novel in one month. I am on pace to finish on Nov.22. I have found that doing a public announcement, with accountability and a group of others is the best way to actually follow through. if you go to that link you can learn more and read an excerpt.

I have had this thing outlined, the character sketches, locations and about 3.5K words done for a while, and for most writers, we are not so keen about our work, as in, never satisfied, so just powering through it is  as good a strategy as any. Then there were  other projects that seemed like a nice diversion, like Hank Rally, and becoming more involved in my virtual assistant work to increase cash flow.

Right now I am at 5780 words, and you are welcome to follow my progress.

I also want to take a moment to thank, and encourage my writing buddies at “NaNo”:

Because we are bugging and nagging and trying to keep each other on track.

Part of my progress going forward includes updating this blog every morning. So let’s see if I can be true to myself and my buddies.

While you are at it you can check out The Day of Focused Moments.

Crazy out to lunch hillbillies.

As much as these crazy satanic weirdo hicks i had the unfortunate opportunity to know for a while were moronic, and insane,  and just absurdly funny as hell to observe, they are getting cut out of my book. There just isn’t room, and they are strange, but not worth it. Here is a thing that is based on real events with changed names that was maybe going in there. Zelda is an 80 year-old woman who twisted her kids into pretty close to animals, and Joseph is a dude they were unable to rope into their sick world. Once they realized he was not going to be taken advantage of, they cut him loose.

I think there are enough in books about crazy wacked-out hillbillies. Besides that they give good country folks a bad name.

Zelda: I hate Christmas, I would NYEVER have a KRISSStmas tree. I hate KRISSHTians. They make me SYICK.

Joseph: Yule trees have been around a lot longer than Christmas trees. The season means a lot of things. You don’t have to associate it with christians if it bothers you so much. What is the point in focusing on things that upset you? If you hate christians so much, why do you go to that Church and sell your poetry to them? Why are you involved in all that stuff if you hate them so much?

Zelda: Because they’re STYOOPID, and they’ll buy ENNything. They’ll do ENNything they’re told.

Joseph:  I’m not a christian either, I don’t turn the other cheek, or love everyone unconditionally, or sacrifice myself for people, and I don’t waste my time hating them and tricking them. I’d rather just trade my skills and be an honest, valuable person. You go to the food pantry, and you volunteer there. I don’t get it. You mean you’re just using them? Like “infiltrating” them or something? Wouldn’t it just be easier to be honest about how you feel and who you are instead of spending so much time with all these people you hate so much? Are there more of you involved like that or is it just you alone? Why do you tie yourself to something that makes you feel so bad? Just to fill your basement with free food? Really?

Zelda: You need to just mind your own business and never mind what I do.

Joseph: You’re the one who told me all this stuff, I wouldn’t know about it if you had not told me. It’s pretty weird. You just do this to yourself you know. You don’t have to be so damn sad. All you do is give this thing you hate more power over you when all you have to do is walk away and be honest.

Zelda: Shut up.

Novel Excerpts: Gimme S'more

This is a graphic I am using for my novel excerpts

I was finally able to get the first of my novel excerpts completed. It’s not long, it’s only 6 pages, and it does not encapsulate the plots. It’s merely a character development piece. These parts of a book are important. When you are doing a long book, it is good to have humor for humor’s sake. Everything doesn’t have to be crucial. These parts of books set-up and tease for other segments that may actually be significant. If the book is heady, and gives the reader a lot to think about then it’s nice to give them a break with something light and fun.

A nice short, sweet post today. I have been busy building stuff here at the Chalet I take care of, and editing a graphic novel script as a side gig.  I’m pooped and have more editing to do.

I am doing one post per day for the month of November, hopefully. Inspired by NaBloPoMo.

This is post…  number 9

Circus Eve, Election 2012: Election Projection, send in the clowns because they are going to win again.

Obama started using drones, not only overseas, but in the United States as well. Romney has promised to pick up the pace. That is a signal to let you know that after the election, Obama is going to pick up the pace.Today, with me being busy making sure I am happy with the excerpt I’m preparing,  it’s just about pictures, and whatever links you find in this post. On Tuesday, election day, tomorrow email subscribers will receive the excerpt from my novel called Stellar Gas.

I have been super busy and I am really happy when I am writing alot.  I am doing a blog post per day all month… hopefully.  Inspired by NaBloPoMo. This will be a good motivation for me to format more ebooks, cause oh yeah.. I got ‘em baby. This is post #5. Can i do it?

All the ebooks that I have listed so far have been changed to 99¢. I have actually sold a couple of them.  From now on, only 99¢ ebooks on kindled commutes, unless I list someone else. Speaking of which, I have a nice inquiry from another blogger who is getting into ebooks. He is going to be a guest on my blog as soon as he is ready. I do not even have his blog address right now or I would give it to you.

Ok, so that is it for today. How would you feel if I asked you to share this site with your friends via email? Or use your facebook account to share it around today. I am averaging about 20 visits per day, but I need to get it up to 100. Once you reach 100 visits per day consistently, that is when you can do some things to make it -really- grow.

Also, never be afraid to ask me for help with your internet needs, I like building websites and using facebook applications to build audience. I do that stuff all the time and I am happy to help you as well.  Probably alot less expensive than other people. Especially if you are a subscriber of mine.. I mean c’mon? Are you kidding, whudd’ya think this is, anyway? A circus?

Well, they must think we are bozos if they expect us to put up with these choices much longer. So till 2016, when the first non-Party affiliated President since George Washington is elected, send in the clowns.

i want a future where i am taught to question everything. where me and my friends are not brainwashed to be taught stone age myths and are not brainwashed to believe it is honorable to die for you because you are too small minded to believe in peace over warI love you America.
